Brief Introduction

 

Phase wound motor is designed with the idea that they should be protected for years of sale operation and with as little maintenance as possiobe. However, phase wound motor cannot be envisaged that the motor will operate trouble-free without regular or neglected maintenance.

 

In order to avoid winding breakdowns, serious damage and frequent shutdowns, a preventive maintenance checklist should be available. This list depends on the operation of the motor and experience with similar phase wound motor. To assure proper maintenance, keep a complete record of each motor, including instruction manual, ratings, maintenance checklist, necessary repairs, and operation.

 

Phase wound motor should be periodically maintained and inspected and should be guaranteed:

the motor is clean and the stator and rotor vent lines are unobstructed;

loads do not exceed ratings and utilization factors;

the coil temperature rise does not exceed the rated value;

insulation resistance is greater than the recommended minimum;

bearing temperatures not exceeding the shutdown values in Table 2;

no abnormal vibration or noise;

a list of necessary parts storage and spare parts inventory;

alignment data (deviation from exact alignment, high temperature allowance);

results of normal inspection (recorded in the "Record of Use");

repairs (recorded in the "Record of use");

lubrication data;
