Brief Introduction
Advantages and disadvantages of brushed and brushless DC motors:
Service life: As mentioned earlier, one of the disadvantages of brushed commutator DC motor 220 volt is that there is mechanical wear on the brushes and commutators.Carbon brushes are especially consumables. In the maintenance plans of many motors, carbon brushes are required to be replaced regularly. The soft copper of the commutator will also be slowly worn out by the brush, and eventually the motor will not work. The brushless motor has no moving contacts, so there is no such wear.
Speed and acceleration: The speed of a brushed commutator DC motor will be limited by the brush, commutator, and rotor quality. At extremely high speeds, the contact between the brush and the commutator will become unstable, and the arc of the brush will increase. Most brushed motors also use laminated iron cores in the rotors, which gives them a large moment of inertia and limits the acceleration and deceleration rates of the motors. The use of high-performance rare earth magnets on the rotor can minimize the moment of inertia.Of course, this will increase costs.
Electrical noise: The brush and the commutator form an electrical switch. When the motor rotates, the switch is turned on or off, and a large amount of current flows through the inductor rotor winding and generates an arc at the contact. These arcs will produce a lot of electrical noise and will be coupled to sensitive circuits.Adding a capacitor or RC buffer to the brush can reduce the arc to a certain extent, but the instantaneous switching of the commutator will still produce some electrical noise. Acoustic noise Brushed motors are "hard-switched", that is, the current suddenly moves from one winding to another. As the winding is turned on and off, the torque generated changes with the rotation of the rotor, resulting in torque fluctuations. The brushless DC motor 220 volt can control the winding current to gradually transition from one winding to another, which reduces torque fluctuations.
Torque fluctuation: is the mechanical pulsation of energy on the rotor. It can cause vibration and mechanical noise, especially when the rotor speed is low. cost The brushed motor technology is very mature and the manufacturing cost is very low.Brushless commutator dc motor require more complex electronic equipment, so the total cost is higher than that of brushed motors; however, because there are no brushes and commutators, they are easier to manufacture than brushed motors. The brushless commutator DC motor is now becoming more and more popular, especially in high-volume applications such as automotive motors. In addition, the continued decline in the cost of electronic equipment (such as microcontrollers) has also made brushless motors more attractive.
